Violet Psychology presents Therapeutic Art Workshop, an ND and LGBTQIA+ affirming art workshop to explore, examine and support.

About this event

This workshop will not be art therapy but it will be a therapeutic arts space which means it is being held by two mental health professionals, an art psychotherapist, Elinor Rowlands, and a health psychologist, Silvia Plaza.

Silvia Plaza is the founder of Violet Psychology, a therapy practice that is both ND and LGBTQIA+ affirming. Elinor Rowlands is also part of Violet Psychology. They both practice feminist psychotherapy.

Schedule

Please note: Music will be played, if you find this inaccessible, please turn your volume down and then you’ll be invited back into the circle at 7:40pm.

Rules

We expect everyone to respect the timing of the workshop and this means that during the share to be mindful of the other participants and that each participant will have space and time to share. We will be there to prompt, encourage and support you.

This space has been set up to be relaxed, welcoming and generous. To support you to make art in a neurodivergent and LGBTQIA+ affirming space, we do not tolerate any hate speech, homophobia, sexism, bullying or hostility of any kind. If anyone does this, they will be immediately removed from the space.

Whilst this is not therapy, there might be mention of some sensitive topics so we ask everyone to respect each other’s lived experiences, survivorship and to respect participants’ right to confidentiality.

Pheroza Sahni: PERMISSION TO PAUSE

18 March 2024

Join us in a space and place to consciously step away from the stresses of our lives – to move away from busyness and doing.

About this event

PHEROZA SAHNI: PERMISSION TO PAUSE –

“creating a space for students to find their own space”

Workshop Info

In this workshop, we will begin by considering the effects of stress on both our bodies and minds. We will explore the function of the stress response and the impact of chronic stress.

Our practice together will be a space and place to consciously step away from the stresses of our lives – to move away from busyness and doing.

We will explore some simple practices that can help ground us; come into our bodies and into the present moment; focus our awareness through the use of the breath; release tension with gentle movement and experience restorative rest.

No previous experience of yoga is required. Please make sure to be somewhere private, warm and comfortable for the practice – with access to either a yoga mat or bed and blanket.

Biography

Pheroza Sahni is a Yoga Therapist, Yoga and Pregnancy Yoga Teacher, Mindfulness & Compassion Teacher based in North London. She has been teaching for over ten years and practising for almost twenty!

“My classes are open to everyone. I encourage my students to practice in a way that best supports and nourishes them, to meet themselves where they are.

“It feels like there is so much to worry about nowadays: the world is in chaos, we suffer with greater stress, we work longer hours with little support and are often busy and rushed. We often feel alone. Using a combination of mindful movement, breath work, awareness and relaxation practices, we are better able to support and empower ourselves. Simple tools help us navigate the messy path of being human – opening our hearts, and providing us with a greater capacity to be kind not only to ourselves but also to those around us.

“In my own life, these practices have supported me immensely. What I most love about teaching is the journey with students as they discover for themselves what it is that they most need. Through slowing down, and creating moments of space and pause, the ability to listen more deeply arises. In learning to trust and become more familiar with our heartfelt desires, true transformation arises. I look forward to practising together.”

Biodivergent Sites & Sounds is an autoethnographic investigation of place, of waterways and of autism as a cultural identity.

About this event

Magical Women presents…

We are always told that encountering nature and preserving the environment is important. But what if you experience access barriers and being out in nature is much harder for you?

Biodivergent Sites & Sounds is an autoethnographic investigation of place, of waterways and of autism as a cultural identity. An autistic-led immersive and accessible experience for audiences to experience nature and to engage in the preservation of Harlesden Canal using creative technology.

The project has been created by multi-disciplinary artist Elinor Rowlands in collaboration with the Canal & River Trust (and its many volunteers); fellow neurodivergent artists Jo-anne Cox, Dee Fry, R.Dyer and Ben Hajioff; young people from Harlesden Primary School and Sport at the Heart; and creative technologist Charles Matthews.

Join us at this very special event at the Grand Union Community Hub in Wembley on Friday 17 November (5pm – 7pm) as we launch the Biodivergent Sites & Sounds scenographic sensory soundscapes and interactive map.

An examination of autistic stimming as an act of power, self-expression and creativity. A connection at the water’s edge.

The event will include musical performances by Jo-anne Cox, R.Dyer, Dee Fry and Elinor Rowlands, poetry by Sofia Lyall, and opportunities for you to be among the first to experience the Biodivergent Sites & Sounds soundscapes.

The event will be held in a fully accessible venue and will be BSL interpreted.

Drinks will be served.

Biodivergent Sites & Sounds has been kindly funded by Arts Council England and the Canal & River Trust, with support from Cole’s Gallery and Creative Health Camden.
