Welcome to Magical Women’s brand-new website!

We’re excited to announce that Magical Women received funding from The Supporting Act Foundation in 2023 to launch a brand new website! We hope you enjoy browsing through our updated space, designed to celebrate and support neurodivergent women and non-binary artists and writers.

Magical Women was established during a time when limited platforms were showcasing neurodivergent voices, particularly those of autistic and ADHD women and non-binary artists in the arts. It’s inspiring to see an explosion of groups, collectives, and organisations supporting neurodivergent spaces. However, one thing we still do best is to focus on accessibility—providing training with organisations and creating relaxed environments where artists can make, create, and share their work. Look out for our Christmas Covens, our Spiritual and Magical Journeying events and share studio spaces.
We’re looking forward to running more events throughout the year, but while Elinor is pursuing a practice-based PhD, things may be a bit slower. We appreciate your patience during this time! Stay Connected: We invite you to explore our new website, stay updated on our activities, and consider applying for our upcoming call-outs. Welcome to our community, and enjoy your visit!

New Winter Call Out 2025

Magical Women is currently on pause until February 2025 but we have a new call out for you!

Call Out – Deadline: 25th January 2025

Send your artworks, poems, stories, visual essays and experimental writing to info@magicalwomen.co.uk

Call for Submissions: Zine publication on “How We Touch the Mother”

We invite you to share your creative expressions for an upcoming zine that will be stocked in the East Anglia Folklore Centre. This zine seeks to explore the multifaceted experience of motherhood, encompassing the journey from maiden to mother to crone.

Theme: How We Touch the Mother

In a world where mothers are often sidelined, pushed aside, or rendered invisible, we want to delve into the complexities of motherhood. What does it mean to be a mother in today’s society? How do we honour and acknowledge the struggles, joys, and transformations inherent in this role?

We also encourage you to consider “touching the mother in nature”. How does the concept of motherhood extend to our environment—Mother Earth, the mother of trees, and the moss as the ancestor of the landscape? How do these natural elements reflect and influence our understanding of motherhood? Consider the role of slugs and slowness in our gardens: how do these often-overlooked creatures embody nurturing and patience, maintaining the balance of life in our green spaces?

We welcome a diverse array of submissions that reflect this theme, including but not limited to:

– Artwork (including digital artwork)

– Poetry

– Short stories

– Visual essays

– Experimental writing

– Photography

Submission Guidelines:

  • Please send your works to info@magicalwomen.co.uk

  • Include your name, contact information (email address), and a brief bio.

  • Submissions are open until 25th January 2025.

  • Artists must be based in the UK and identify as women or non-binary artists or/and writers.

  • Magical Women is by and for autistic/ADHD women and non-binary artists or/and writers.

Join us in celebrating and examining the rich tapestry of motherhood, both human and natural. We can’t wait to see how you interpret this theme!

Every selected artist receives 3 copies of a Zine.

We look forward to hearing from you.
